What is the Center of Excellence Program?

The Center of Excellence (COE) Program directs patients to facilities and health care professionals recognized as high-quality providers in certain medical specialties.

 

Participation in the program is voluntary and employee initiated.  Employees must call prior to the scheduling of their surgery to enroll in the program. If an employee chooses to use a COE facility, his or her medical expenses will be paid at 100%, regardless of which Choices program he or she is enrolled in. He or she is also eligible for up to $10,000 to cover travel and related expenses.

 

There are more than 1,000 facilities nationwide that have met the quality and cost criteria for the program.  

 

The specialties covered by the program are:

  • Transplants
  • Knee and hip replacements
  • Cardiac care
  • Spine care
  • Bariatric surgery
  • Complex and rare cancers
