Using Your Medical Benefits
Your medical benefit is one of the most valuable benefits that Alcoa offers. The more you know about your benefits. The easier it will be to use them when you need them.
All of Alcoa’s medical plans offer the following advantages: - Unlike other employers, Alcoa doesn’t cap the amount of medical coverage you can receive. So you can have peace of mind: If something serious ever happens, your coverage will not fall short.
- Alcoa pays for the majority of your medical coverage, including the portion of your medical claims that you are not responsible for. You pay for your medical coverage through your payroll contributions (which are not taxed), your deductible, and your coinsurance.
- The amount you pay for your medical claims is limited by your out-of-pocket maximum. You’re protected: There’s a limit to the combined deductible and coinsurance costs you’ll ever pay in one calendar year.
- Most employees are covered by preferred provider organization (PPOs).* In a PPO:
- You aren’t required to have a primary care doctor, so you don’t need referrals. That’s convenient.
- You’re covered whether you choose in-network or out-of-network providers. This gives you the option to seek whatever care you need when you need it. But keep in mind: You save when you use in-network providers.
- Your plan provides free routine in-network preventive care to help you stay healthy. Alcoa picks up the tab for these services.
- Your medical claims are administered by one of the following companies. See your medical ID card to confirm the name of your medical claim administrator:
*HMOs may be available at some locations.
