Blood Glucose (Sugar)

Glucose provides your body with energy it needs to function properly. Everyone’s blood has some glucose in it. For people who don’t have diabetes, the normal range is about 70 to 120. When your glucose is too high, you may have type 2 diabetes.

Quick facts:

  • About 11% of American adults have type 2 diabetes.
  • Symptoms of type 2 diabetes include increased thirst and hunger, fatigue, increased urination (especially at night), weight loss, blurred vision, and sores that do not heal.

How do I find out what my blood glucose level is?
Blood glucose levels are tested to diagnose type 2 diabetes. You will have this test during your annual physical. In addition, many health fairs provide free blood glucose testing. Test strips for measuring blood sugar can be used at home. You can use your Health Care Fund to cover this purchase at drugstore.com or your local pharmacy.
