Alcoa Wellness in Action

Alcoa's wellness program helps employees and their families understand their health risks, learn healthy behaviors, and improve their health so they can safely work and play.

 

Alcoa Wellness is a company-wide initiative with two components:

  • Worksite wellness programs
  • Personal health coaches

 

Worksite wellness

Four pilot locations kicked off worksite wellness programs that offer onsite health improvement programs, health screenings, and various free Highmark resources. Locations partner with dedicated Highmark health professionals to offer flexible programs to all employees to improve their health.  

 

As of November 2010, seven Alcoa locations are participating in the fully supported onsite programs:

  • Chandler
  • Cleveland
  • Lafayette
  • Mt. Holly  
  • New York
  • Pittsburgh
  • Whitehall

Health coaches

Highmark Blues on Call health coaches help Alcoa employees and their families by:

  • providing coaching on wellness and lifestyle issues, by request, and  
  • calling to offer assistance in dealing with chronic health conditions, a new diagnosis, prescription medications, and other health issues.

No worksite program at your location yet?

That doesn't mean you can't participate in the Alcoa Wellness Program. As an Alcoa employee or dependent covered by Highmark, you have access to a health coach or a number of online programs to help you meet your wellness goals.

 

How that works

 

 

The Health Questionnaire: Not just for enrollment 

If you completed the Health Questionnaire when you enrolled in your 2011 benefits, you know that the questionnaire provides valuable, real-time feedback about your current health status and ways to improve it.

 

But did you know that you can continue to get that feedback throughout the year? You can complete the Health Questionnaire every 60 days as a way to monitor your progress toward your health goals.

 

For example, after your annual physical, you may want to enter your new cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood glucose readings. If you are diagnosed with a new condition, feedback from the questionnaire can help you better manage it. Or if you have dropped a few pounds, see how that weight loss changed your risk factors.

 

You can access the Health Questionnaire on the Highmark website. Click on the "Your Health" tab, then the "Wellness Profile" link. You can view your previous results or retake the questionnaire.
